If you are planning to dye Easter eggs you might consider this fun idea. How about making your own dye from natural products? Last summer at the WOW booth at the Farmers’ Market we made ink and paint from natural products. Some of the colors we made were a surprise. You can use the same products to dye your eggs. Here are a few suggestions and below is a link that will give you some more ideas. Have fun.
The first suggestion is that after you make these natural dyes you should put your hard boiled eggs in them and leave them to soak overnight in the refrigerator for the richest color.
Pink can be made by cutting a beet into chunks, add a quart of boiling water, stir in 2 Tablespoons of vinegar and let it cool. Remove the beets and add the eggs.
For Lavender eggs mix a cup of grape juice with a Tablespoon of vinegar.
And here’s one of the big surprises, for Blue eggs, chop a quarter of a head of red cabbage, add a quart of boiling water and 2 Tablespoons of vinegar. Let it cool and remove the cabbage.
All of these are fun and some are surprising. Here’s a link to more ideas for natural egg dye. http://www.bhg.com/holidays/easter/eggs/natural-easter-egg-dyes/
